Snowboarding Socks

My grandson asked if I could use up all the little leftover yarn to make him an outrageous rad pair of long knee-high socks for snowboarding rather than conventional socks. No problem! Certainly the little balls of yarn have been accumulating, and in most cases there are two of about the same size, since I weigh my yarn into two equal balls when I wind it. My color sense won't let me do the grab bag color blocking.

I did start with a pink variegated for the toe, which is quite startling. From there I moved to a subtle mixed olive with a bit of pink and orange in it...Well, you'll just have to see it. I'll post a photo as soon as I figure out how to do that...and take a digital photo. Perhaps later today.

The writing group that I facilitate was interesting as always. One of our members, who has just returned to the group after a few weeks of recuperating from back surgery, read a very personal story about the death of her son and all that led up to it. She chose to read this story today when there was the small group that has been together for almost two years now. She had known that our newer members were going to be absent today. Gratifying that this small group has bonded to the extent that this reading could take place.

Another writer read about her trip with her daughter to a Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon. She also showed some sample baskets she has woven, as well as an interesting gourd treatment with woven reeds. The third writer wrote with her "older" car as the narrator - very funny. I read a letter that I had recently sent to the Editor of The Davis Enterprise, protesting the closure of mental health resource centers, which have for 30+ years been a part of Yolo Community Care Continuum, of which I was a founding board member. A travesty - pennywise and pound foolish in my eyes.

Enough for a first post I would say. Now I'll see how this thing works. I've had a blog before - at Diaryland.
